A crowdfunding campaign was set up on Thursday for wheelchair-bound Paul Bell who was hit by a car the day previous in an effort to cover costs associated with replacing medical devices and his recovery.
Bell is described as a “loving husband and well known and respected member of the community”. He was previously a nurse at St. Joseph hospital, a member of the Guelph Little Theater and most memorably he is Santa Clause.
The Go Fund Me page, set up by his neice Kelcie Marie, raised over $1,000 by early afternoon of a total $10,000 goal. Marie says “any donation would be greatly appreciated”.
Bell went in for emergency surgery on Tuesday night to repair multiple broken bones, Marie wrote, saying that he “broke his hip, femur, tibia and fibula and rods were placed from thigh to knee and knee to ankle.”
Emergency services were called to a crash site at Edinburgh Rd. at Willow Rd. by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
A blue Subaru Legacy was half-mounted on the concrete east side of Edinburgh Rd. with a wheelchair behind it.
