The Guelph Fire Department arrived on-scene early on Tuesday morning to a report of a fire at 415 Elizabeth St. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a large pile of scrap metal, an incident that is now under investigation.

Firefighters said that they were able to get the compound blaze quickly under control and “subsequently extinguished”, though “extensive overhaul” was carried out by units from five different stations.

The cause of the fire, which caused no known injuries, along with an estimate on the damage is under probe by Guelph Fire investigators, who will follow up at a later time, according to a press release.
