An off-duty Peel Regional Police officer called in to Guelph Police what they believed to be an impaired driver in a car with “extensive front-end damage” driving on the Hanlon Expressway.

When the vehicle eventually stopped in a parking lot at Woodlawn Rd. and Woolwich St., the off-duty officer detained the female driver until Guelph Police arrived.

She was formally brought into custody and breathe samples showed the 25-year-old Cambridge woman had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

She was subsequently charged with operation while impaired for blood alcohol concentration, operation while impaired and for driving without a license.

She will appear in court on June 14, police said.

Less than two hours later, Guelph Police were called to Lyon Ave. to investigate a report that a vehicle had just driven onto the front lawn of a residence.

It turns out the 65-year-old male driver was impaired by drugs and was arrested. He will appear on court on July 12.
