A car split in half after smashing into a pole early on Saturday morning in Guelph’s west end, killing one and critically injuring another at Wellington St. West and Imperial Rd. South and a Guelph Police investigation is ongoing.
A male in his 20’s was pronounced dead on scene and a female in her 20’s was airlifted by Ornge with serious injuries, police reported. The car split in two after hitting a hydro pole at high speeds.
Traffic Reconstruction Officers along with the Forensic Identification Unit processed the scene, police said. The names of those involved are being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The westbound lane of traffic was blocked off by hydro crews on Saturday morning but it has since been cleared. Workers were replacing a wooden hydro pole at the intersection.
