A local 16-year-old was arrested for impaired driving after failing a roadside test early Thursday morning on Victoria Rd. South, Guelph Police said in a statement.

Besides driving with above the legal blood alcohol level, the teenager was operating the vehicle with a G1 license, which is illegal without a more experienced driver.

The youth will appear in court on May 29, the daily police briefing added. Also included in the press release are details on two other cases.

On Wednesday afternoon, police received a report detailing a child being struck by a car around 3:15 p.m. while crossing Willow Rd. at Applewood Dr.

The child briefly spoke to the driver of the vehicle, a black four-door car, before both parties departed the scene. Police are looking for any information related to the incident.

A car-on-car collision on Gordon St. that took place Wednesday night is being treated as an investigation by the police service.

The probe so far has determined that around 8:20 p.m. on Gordon St. by Kortright Rd., a white Hyundai travelling northbound on was struck by a white Honda headed south.

A 46-year-old woman was the sole occupant of the Hyundai. After visiting the hospital, she was released without life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old man was driving the Honda car with several other passengers inside. They were all treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police expect their ongoing investigation to result in charges being laid.

Other cases

Police responded to a report about a break and enter at an Arthur St. North residence on Wednesday where entry was gained via a window and a television and camping bags were reportedly stolen.

Several other charges were outlined in the daily police press briefing:

  • A 33-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for breach probation. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
  • A 30-year-old Guelph man arrested on a Halton Regional Police warrant for mischief under. He was turned over to Halton Police.
  • A 53-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for assault police. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
