Police early overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning shut down parts of the Hanlon Parkway headed southbound, and the service revealed on Friday why they did it.

On June 19 at 10:10 p.m. the Guelph Police received a report of an adult male in medical distress on the southbound lanes of the Hanlon. Police responded with EMS, Guelph Fire and the provincial police.

The southbound lanes of the Hanlon Parkway were shut down to allow for the investigation into the incident, police said in a press release.

The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Local police are continuing to investigate the incident, however the circumstances surrounding the incident are not to be considered suspicious.
