Shelldale Family Gateway needs to raise $5,000 in donations to make sure that all the youth that rely on going to the camp during the summer will be able to attend, Coun. Phil Allt said on Thursday, announcing a $100 contribution.

“I’m not going to beat around the bushes but I am going to beat the bushes to encourage you to match me and donate 100 bucks to this,” Allt wrote on his Facebook page. The councillor added that he usually keeps his financial contributions anonymous, but aims to challenge others.

A charitable tax receipt is available for any sponsor over $25, an appeal form from Shelldale says. Those that are interested in donating can mail or drop money off, use the digital donate button or as a beneficiary.

For this summer, 100 children and youth from age four up to 18 will participate in four programs being offered by the non-profit based in the Willow Road area of the city, located in the Shelldale Centre. Special grant funding allowed the community group to hire 13 youth to work the camp.
