The City of Guelph is marking Go Skateboarding Day on Friday with an open, free event at Norm Jarry Skatepath in the north end.

Movies, popcorn, music, giveaways and skateboarding will make up an atmosphere of celebration from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Shelldale Family Gateway.

Two movies will be shown in partnership with the Guelph Film Festival: The Devil’s Toy and Breaking the Crust, both skateboard themed.

Go Skateboarding Day is held annually on June 21 and was created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies.

Guelph not only has the “skatepath” but also a skatepark closer to downtown Guelph in the form of the Silvercreek Skatepark.

The two areas are open from dusk to dawn and are only to be used with skateboards, BMX bikes, in-line skates and the like.
