Twitter announced on Thursday that the social media network’s policy around politicians and candidates will be changing so that any tweet violating the site’s rules will be obscured by a warning that explains the violation.

The new policy, announced via a press release, will apply to accounts that have more than 100,000 followers. Twitter up until now has effectively exempted political leaders from any sort of consequences for breaking the rules due to their tweets being in “the public interest”.

There has been severe backlash against the tweets put out by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has violated Twitter’s rules around proper conduct with some tweets critics label as racist, discriminatory or harassment.
