A young six-year-old girl was reunited with her relieved family after an early morning walk in an east end neighbourhood on Saturday.
Concerned citizens found the girl wandering around at about 2:30 a.m. and contacted police, the service said in a press release.
Officers found that the child woke up in the night and left her home of her own doing. Her family had just moved to the area so she did not know how to return home.
The police helped the lost child by carrying out a thorough search of the surrounding neighbourhoods and schools in an effort to find her family.
“Police conducted door knocks at numerous residences, and drive through the areas with the child, hoping to jog her memory,” the police statement adds.
It was around 6 a.m. when police finally located her family. The girl’s father and grandmother arrived at the station where the family we reunited.
Police said that they have no suspicion of wrongdoing and were happy to bring the family back together.
