The Guelph Storm, Ontario Hockey League champions, won their first game at the Memorial Cup on Saturday in Halifax against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, this year’s winner of the QMJHL’s President’s Cup.

The score was 5-2 with a hat-trick from Alexei Toropchenko, a goal from MacKenzie Entwistle and another from Nick Suzuki. The dual Huskies goals came from Vincent Marleau and Jakob Lauko.

Storm coach and general manager George Burnett called it “a good win” during the post-game press conference but admitted “I wasn’t real excited with the way we started the hockey game.”

“I thought we were a little nervous, turned the puck over way too much throughout the night, but we had some timely goals, a big performance from Toropchenko who really elevated his game I thought, and gave us a big lift.”
